Sabre Tooth Cat

I’ve always loved sabre-toothed cats. When I was a kid I really wanted all the classic Aurora monster models. I never got any of these, but I did manage to obtain (for a steal) some of their prehistoric kits; cavemen, tar pit, and my favourite, the sabre tooth. The bases kind of locked together and I had them laid out in my bedroom like a tiny Natural History museum display. Sadly, I no longer have them, as they now fetch pretty serious prices on eBay.

Cutie Dragon Commish

The brief for this dragon commission specified that he had to be adorable; so I played down all of the dragon’s malevolent characteristics and ramped up the cute factor to 11. When I was sculpting him I was thinking about a book ‘The Flight of Dragons’ illustrated by fellow Midlands artist Wayne Anderson at the end of the 70’s. I didn’t take it off my bookshelf and revisit it until I finished sculpting, but I can detect a slight influence, especially in the huge, soulful eyes.

When you're Smilodon

Just finished the sculpt stage on this sabre-toothed beastie. Whiskers to be added after firing.

New Baffler Bird

Prior to the mating season the male Baffler Bird sheds some of its plumage and regrows more brightly coloured feathers. The bizarre mating rituals of the Baffler Bird were described vividly in Scoffer's journals: "during dusk and throughout the early evening, our relaxation was much inhibited by the hoots and squawks of the birds courtship taking place within the jungle"

The Great Fuzzle Deer

The largest of the Fuzzle Deer family, this wide-eyed ruminant has a longer coat than its cousins. It has two larger teeth in its lower jaw which it employs in extricating the edible tubers of the fidugi plant from the hard soil in which it grows.  

Cave Bear Complete

The Cave Bear of Scoffer's Island. A (mostly) gentle giant who occupies the misty peaks and hidden valleys of the island's mountainous regions. The only thing he likes better than a fish supper is a good long snooze.

New Baffler Bird

A new Baffler Bird. Almost finished the sculpt stage, now need to put it to dry alongside the Cave Bear and Fuzzle Deer.  

New Great Fuzzle

A larger, shaggier version of the Fuzzle Deer, horns to be attached post-firing.

Cave Bear Sculpt Finished

Just finished the sculpt stage on this Cave Bear. He now needs to hibernate for a couple of weeks to dry out for firing.

Lagoon Crocodile (Danger In The Shallows!)

The Lagoon Crocodile of Scoffer's Island. Responsible for the losses of three pack mules, the ship's cat and the bosun's left foot.

Just finishing up the sculpt stage on another Seuss Moose. Antlers etc to be fixed after firing.
